Mountaineers Too Physical for Cowboys

West Virginia’s intense defense and physical presence rebounding was too much for 22nd ranked Oklahoma State in a 73-63 win over the Cowboys at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater on Saturday.

West Virginia outrebounded OSU by 17 and forced 15 Cowboys turnovers, rallying from an early deficit, then taking control with a 16-6 run to begin the second half.

WVU made 10 three-pointers in the game, and shot 10 more free throws to win the first  meeting of the season between the two teams.

Four Cowboys were in double figures, with Le’Bryan Nash leading OSU with 12 points.

Michael Cobbins and Anthony Hickey added 11 points each and Phil Forte 10.

Juwan Staten led West Virginia with 22 points.

With the game tied 25-25 at halftime, the Mountaineers quickly built a double digit lead and it eventually grew to 13.

OSU has lost three games in a row and drops to 17-10 overall, 7-8 in Big 12 play.

West Virginia improves to 21-6, 9-5 in conference play.

Oklahoma State next will play at Texas Tech next Saturday, February 28 at 3:00.
