The Oklahoma State Cowboys baseball team, fresh off a regional victory in Stillwater last weekend, found out late Monday night they will host a “Super” regional in the NCAA tournament this weekend, for the first time since 2007. The Cowboys clinched a host spot when the Univ. of California/Irvine upset the tournament’s #1 overall seed, Oregon State, 4-2 in Corvallis, OR late Monday night.
OSU (46-18) ripped through their 4-team opening round regional when they took care of Cal.State Fullerton in the title game last weekend to advance them through to the “Super” regional on their home diamond or in Oregon. The top-seed Beavers loss is only the 2nd time in the history of this format that the NCAA tourney’s top seed…has lost in the opening round, and been eliminated.
The best-of-3 game regional game days have been released and the Cowboys will play UC-Irvine at 8:30pm Friday, 9pm Saturday and if they have to play a 3rd and decisive game in the best-of-3 series…it will be Sunday night at 8pm…with every game at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater…and all games will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
