COLUMBUS, Ohio – Lon Kruger and the Oklahoma Sooners held their final media appearance before their showdown with Dayton on Sunday.
The Flyers are playing a virtual home game against the Sooners. Their campus is just 70 miles away from the city of Columbus.
Dayton head coach Archie Miller said, “It’s hard for me to be negative about being here. It’s hard for me to apologize for making the tournament. It’s hard for me to apologize to our guys getting ready to play six games in ten days. I don’t think I have to apologize anything for what we’re trying to accomplish or where we’re doing it.”
Meanwhile, the Sooners aren’t worried about the home court advantage Dayton brings with them.
Oklahoma has been battled tested all year in the Big 12 where it’s truly tough to win on the road.
Lon Kruger is just worried about the Flyers saying, “We’re not going to worry about it. We understand it adds to the challenge. But more importantly, Dayton is a really good basketball team. We’re a lot more concerned about those guys than we are the crowd, even though the crowd warrants consideration too.”
This match up brings back bitter memories for Oklahoma fans. In the 1984 NCAA Tournament, the 10th seed Dayton upset the 2 seed Oklahoma Sooners and Waymon Tisdale.
All time, OU owns a 2-1 series advantage against the Flyers.
Dayton is playing for the 6th time in 10 days on Sunday.
This will be their 3rd tournament game already as they kicked off their march madness run having to play in the “First 4” game last Tuesday.
However, the Flyers aren’t intimidated by any fans, team, or situation.
Miller led his Dayton squad to the Elite 8 last year.
Tip off in Columbus is set for 6:10 p.m. eastern/5:10 p.m. central time on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the Sweet 16.
