Sooners Spread Wealth, Advance to Supers

Oklahoma’s softball team got a hit and a run scored from every member of the starting lineup on their way to an 11-6 win over Texas A&M to win the NCAA regional at Marita Hynes Field in Norman on Sunday.

OU advances to the super regional and will host Tennessee next weekend.

The Sooners fell behind 2-0 in the first inning on a 2-run home run by Nicole Morgan.

Oklahoma answered with a five-run second inning.

Georgia Casey hit a towering solo home run to left field to make it 2-1, then later in the inning Destinee Martinez hit a bases-loaded triple to put the Soopners on top for good.

OU added two more in the 4th inning on a 2-run home run by Lauren Chamberlain, her 70th career home run.

Two more runs followed in the fifth inning, with an RBI double from Erin Miller and an RBI single by Martinez.

Brittany Williams capped the scoring with a 2-run home run in the 7th inning as the Sooners advanced to their fifth straight super regional.

OU also extended several winning streaks, winning their 15th game in a row overall, 13th straight NCAA Tournament game to tie a school record, 10th straight regional game, 16th straight regional or super regional game, and 13th straight home game.

Oklahoma has been hot down the stretch, winning 30 of their last 32 games.

The regional championship is OU’s 13th and they advance to the super regional round for the eighth time.

OU will face Tennessee in Game 1 of the best of three super regional Friday night at 6:00, with Game 2 set for 4:00 on Saturday.

If a third game is necessary, it will be played shortly after Game 2.
