OU offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley was very excited this week to learn that DeDe Westbrook would be at full health for maybe the first time all season.

Well the Texan made him look pretty good on Saturday inside the Cotton Bowl catching an OU record 232 receiving yards.

He also pulled in a career high ten passes, the most ever by a Sooner against Texas.

I asked Riley after the game did you expect this kind of performance?

“Yea, positive thinking right?” Riley, the OU offensive coordinator said.  “Yea I knew he could do it, and I felt like we’d have some opportunities with how we were running the ball.  I knew it was going to be aggressive as far as them in the box, and we’d get some one on one’s.  Us being able to win those was incredibly key.”

“It was great,” Westbrook said.  “Just being out there with my brothers.  Being able to compete to the best of my abilities.  The record wouldn’t even be possible if it wasn’t for the offensive line, and the other receivers doing their job.  Pretty much freeing me up to make big plays when the ball was thrown my way.”

“That just goes to show when he’s healthy nobody can compete with his speed,” Baker Mayfield, OU starting quarterback, said.  “That’s the thing that I’ve always loved to exploit is the fact that he can out run people.  He’s got track type speed so that’s why I love throwing to him.”

“He had a huge day,” Samaje Perine, OU starting running back, said.  “Him and bake getting them connected.  It’s hard to stop guys like that.  He’s quick, he’s shifty but he also has that break away speed that a lot of quick people don’t really have.  They have a quick burst, but once they get in the open field they don’t know what to do with the ball.  He knows what to do with it.  It’s good to see him get the balls in the end.”

Westbrook combined with Samaje Perine to give the Sooners their first ever 200 yard rushing performance and 200 yard receiving performance in the same game in school history.
