Cowboys Stay Unbeaten With Win Over UConn in Hawaii

Oklahoma State’s men’s basketball team got off to an 18-3 start and never trailed on their way to a 98-90 win over Connecticut in the first round of the Maui Invitational on Monday night.

Jawun Evans led OSU with 35 points and added 6 assists and 5 steals, plus hit three of OSU’s 12 3-pointers.

The Cowboys led by 14 at halftime and built the lead to 19 at one point, before UConn rallied to cut the deficit to six in the final minute before OSU won by eight.

Two other OSU players hit three 3-pointers, with Jeffrey Carroll and Phil Forte both scoring 18.

Cameron McGriff added 13 points for the Cowboys.

The game took two and a half hours to play, thanks to a combined 58 fouls and 84 free throws, with each team taking 42.

OSU improved to 4-0 on the season.

The Cowboys will play at 9:30 central time Tuesday night in the Maui Invitational semifinals.
