It was an incredible season both the Sooners and Cowboys with each team earning ten wins and impressive bowl bids.
Today, the conference recognized the individuals who made those terrific seasons happen. The awards were voted on by coaches around the league.
Bob Stoops was named Big 12 Coach of the Year. It’s the fifth time in his 17 years at OU he’s earned the honor.
Baker Mayfield may not have been a Heisman finalist, but he took home the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year
Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year went to Sooners standout Wide Receiver Dede Westbrook. Westbrook has 42 receptions, 672 yards and four touchdowns this season.
OSU Defensive End Emmanuel Ogbah was named Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year along with Baylor defensive lineman Andrew Billings.
21 Sooners and Cowboys earned first and second team honors.
First team All-Big 12 members from OU included QB- Baker Mayfield, RB – Samaje Perine, WR – Sterling Shepard, C – Ty Darlington, G – Nila Kasitati, DE – Charles Tapper, LB – Dominique Alexander, LB – Eric Striker and CB – Zack Sanchez.
First team All-Big 12 members from OSU included: TE – Blake Jarwin, DL – Emmanuel Ogbah, DB – Kevin Peterson.
Second team All-Big 12 members from OU included TE – Mark Andrews, DT – Charles Walker, LB – Jordan Evans, DB – Ahmad Thomas, DB – Jordan Thomas, P – Austin Seibert.
Second team All-Big 12 members from the Cowboys include: WR – James Washington, DE – Jimmy Bean, DB – Jordan Sterns.
The Cowboys nabbed 12 honorable mentions from the Big 12 while the Sooners had five.
