After a record-setting performance in the Sugar Bowl, Trevor Knight locked up OU’s starting quarterback job for the foreseeable future.

On Monday, August 18, OU head football coach Bob Stoops said that “in all likelihood” Cody Thomas would be his team’s backup quarterback.

Thomas spent the spring splitting time between playing baseball and football for the Sooners.

The sophomore signal caller won over the spot from Justice Hansen and Baker Mayfield during OU’s fall camp.

With using the phrase “in all likelihood,” Stoops left open the opportunity for former Texas Tech quarterback Baker Mayfield to possibly be Trevor Knight’s backup in 2014.

OU is still waiting to hear from the NCAA on whether Mayfield will be eligible in 2014.

To add to the Sooners backup quarterback drama, Jason Kersey of The Oklahoman, reported that Thomas missed some practices this week due to an injury, so OU had Blake Bell taking snaps at quarterback as an insurance policy.

Bell switched from playing quarterback to tight end during spring ball.
