Kansas rode a 38 game road losing streak into Norman to square off with the Sooners. Although hope to win the contest against OU would be much tougher than just road woes. Bob Stoops has never lost to Kansas as Oklahoma head coach.

It didn’t start well for the Jayhawks either. Dede Westbrook returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown to give Oklahoma a 7-0 lead. It’s the first punt return touchdown for Oklahoma in nearly three years.

Kansas manufactured a 15 play drive which resulted in a Matthew Wyman 23 yard field goal. OU still led 7-3.

The two schools traded turnovers before Joe Mixon was shaken up and left the game. Trainers are currently looking at his leg. Freshman Abdual Adams took Mixon’s spot.

Mixon returned in the second quarter despite having a slight limp. That drive ended with Baker Mayfield finding Dede Westbrook on a 41 yard touchdown. The Sooners took a 14-3 lead.

It didn’t take long for Oklahoma to score again. Baker Mayfield found Mark Andrew on a 15 yard touchdown. The Sooners had a 21-3 lead.

Kansas would get it back and try to go for it on 4th and four near the 50. OU stopped them and made them pay. Oklahoma quickly drove down the field and Mayfield threw his third TD pass of the half, this one to Dimitri Flowers on a 15 yard strike. Oklahoma took a 28-3 lead into halftime.

In the third, Baker Mayfield found Dede Westbrook for a 35 yard gain. It put Westbrook over the 100 yard receiving mark for the fifth straight game. That would lead to a two yard Joe Mixon touchdown run. Oklahoma added to their lead which made it 35-3.

On OU’s next possession, Mixon then played the role of set up man. He took a handoff 52 yards inside the ten. That led to a Baker Mayfield seven yard touchdown pass to Geno Lewis. It’s Lewis’ first touchdown reception at Oklahoma. He transferred to Norman from Penn State. OU up 42-3.

The Sooners continued to pour it on after that. Jordan Evans picked off Montell Cozart and returned it 33 yards for the pick six touchdown. Oklahoma rolling at that point 49-3.

With the starters done in the third, freshman running back Devin Montgomery scored on a 10 yard touchdown run. OU up 56-3.

Mayfield’s day finished 16-24, 236 yards, 4 touchdowns. Dede Westbrook caught five passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Oklahoma has a short week as they travel to Ames for a Thursday night showdown with Iowa State.
