NORMAN, Okla. – Frank Shannon, a starting linebacker in 2013, was not listed as part of OU’s depth chart, which was released prior to the Louisiana Tech game.
In April, officials announced that Shannon was accused of sexually assaulting a female student at his Norman home this year.
According to a published report, Shannon has not been arrested or charged for the alleged crime but the Norman Police Department says it is investigating.
In 2013, Shannon was one of the Sooners’ leading tacklers and was being considered as an anchor to the team’s defensive unit.
Since he is not listed on the depth chart, many analysts are assuming he will not take the field.
Instead, it seems former Norman North product Jordan Evans will start in his spot at inside linebacker.
Baker Mayfield, a former Texas Tech quarterback, is also not listed on the depth chart.
He had petitioned the NCAA to be immediately eligible this season after leaving Lubbock in the spring.
At a news conference on Monday, OU head coach Bob Stoops said players on the depth chart will play.
When asked about Frank Shannon, Stoops said, “I have to proceed with players I know who’s going to be available.”
