By Buddy Hield standards, it was a tough night on the court. Until he fired up a half court shot that banked in giving Oklahoma a Big 12 title game berth over West Virginia…except for one small detail.

The dramatic buzzer beating shot was a tenth of a second too late. As if the clock had sprung forward just a moment too soon. The Mountaineers prevailed 69-67.

The Sooners spent most of the game playing catch up to WVU. Buddy Hield didn’t hit a field goal in the first half, and didn’t hit his first until half way through the second half.

Jordan Woodard kept the Sooners afloat in the first, finishing with 11. In the second half, freshman Christian James carried the load finishing with 13 points.

However, after Jaysean Paige hit a tough contested jumper with under 10 seconds to play giving WVU a one point advantage, James missed a layup that just couldn’t get over the rim.

The Mountaineers would hit one of two free throws with 1.8 seconds left giving them a two point lead. Hield hit the incredible shot, but in the end it was waved off. The ball was still on his fingertips as the clock struck zero on the game and the Sooners in the Big 12 Tournament.

The West Virginia win means they’ll square off with Kansas for the Big 12 Tourney title.

Hield, who played one of his worst games against West Virginia earlier in the year, had his worst outing of the season by far finishing 1-8 with just six points. Isaiah Cousins, on the other hand, provided 15 points on 50 percent shooting.

Je’Von Carter had a game high 26 in the win for his Mountaineers.

Now the Sooners sit and wait until Sunday to find out where they will go dancing and what seed. Almost a lock to play in OKC for the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

The Sooners hope the clock won’t strike midnight too early on their special season.
