HOUSTON, Texas - While the Sooners accomplished a lot during a fantastic season, it ended on a sour note Saturday night.

Villanova essentially shut down OU's offensive machine and took advantage of weaknesses to overwhelm the Sooners 95-51 during Saturday night's Final Four matchup.

"We haven't had a game like that this year," said OU forward Ryan Spangler.

In addition to being aggressive at the basket, Villanova was also extremely strict on defense.

OU's shooting star, guard Buddy Hield, had been averaging nearly 30 points in the postseason.

On Saturday, the Wildcats held Hield to just nine points and just one shot from the 3-point line.

"They made it tough on me. We just couldn't get it going," Hield said. "They just played great. Hats off to Villanova."

The team's seniors say they simply couldn't get the shots to fall or the stops they needed at the right time.

"We felt like we got a bucket or two or a stop, and then they'd get a 3," Spangler said.

Hield says it simply came down to not capitalizing on opportunities.

"We tried to find a rhythm to stop them," Hield said. "It's one of the best teams I've ever played in college."

"We missed some shots that we usually make," Spangler said.

OU head coach Lon Kruger says he is disappointed in the outcome of the game, but is not "disappointed in what they've accomplished."

As Villanova heads to the national championship, Sooner fans will say goodbye to three seniors who had major impacts on the team and the culture around campus.

Buddy Hield, Ryan Spangler and Isaiah Cousins have all played their last in a Sooner uniform.

After the team's loss, Hield said he wanted to thank the fans for their continued support and now plans on "chasing his dreams in the NBA."
